Description

Ground Thawing Heated Blankets by Powerblanket are extra hot blankets that thaw frozen ground, keep vehicle or equipment engines warm, and effectively melt dangerous ice dams, melt snow and ice from roofs, walkways, and construction areas. The high watt density in Powerblanket Extra-Hot ground thawing heated blankets will change the way you thaw ground in really cold weather. This line of Powerblanket flat electric heating blankets provides a higher watt density and hotter temperature than the concrete curing blankets they resemble. They run between 30-40 watts/square foot, and have a max temperature of 150F +/-10F. Extra-Hot thawing blankets are designed to thaw around one inch of frozen soil per hour on average.

  • Heats to a preset 150°F ± 10°F / 65.5°C ±5°C. Provides higher heat control when combined with a thermostatic controller.
  • Melt snow and ice from roofs, walkways, and construction areas.
  • Thaw up to 24” of frozen ground.  Approximately one inch of frozen soil/hour. Average rate of 12″-24″ every 24 hours.
  • Heavy-duty, water resistant rip stop black vinyl material with a cold crack rating of -20F°.
  • Extra-Hot XTREME heated blankets are designed for extremely cold climates (Alaska and Canada) and made with a more supple grey vinyl material that has a cold crack rating of  -60F°.
  • Protect against “Cold-Start” wear and tear on automobile engines. Increase engine and battery life.
  • Heated blankets provide freeze protection for Hydraulics & Fuel Tanks.
  • Ideal for service trucks, Motors, and motor equipment.
  • Certified by ETL to UL & CSA safety standards.

More Info

If you work outside a lot, then you realize that preparation often takes longer than the actual job does. The high watt density in this ground thawing equipment helps tackle the difficulty of thawing ground in harsh climates. This line of Powerblanket flat heated electric warming blankets have a higher watt density and hotter temperature than our concrete curing heated blankets. The higher temperatures are ideal for ground thawing applications.

Extra-Hot warming blankets also provides cold weather protection for engines, equipment, and machinery! Keep vital fluids, batteries, and hoses ready for operation 24/7. Create the necessary heat barrier to ensure longer engine life and prevent “cold-start” wear & tear. Powerblanket is an all-in-one heating solution which effectively replaces separate heating devices for oil pans, blocks, cores, hoses, fluid reservoirs, and crank cases by heating the entire engine compartment! Great for preheating service trucks, snowmobiles, hydraulic / fuel tanks, and heavy construction equipment.

DEEP THOUGHTS ON GROUND THAWING

Do you need to dig to repair a pipe? Is your construction crew prepping to lay concrete on frozen topsoil? In either case, dealing with frozen ground is certainly not ideal and waiting until the ground thaws in the late spring or early summer is not an option.

Powerblanket Extra-Hot Ground Thawing Blankets thaw frozen ground for concrete preparation, sub-roughs, footings, utility excavation, and other cold weather construction applications, melts and prevent snow and ice accumulation from construction sites, driveways, walkways, roofs and entryways, preheats construction materials, sand & aggregate, rebar, and I-beams. Ground thawing flat blankets rapidly heat temperature sensitive materials all season long.

Keep jobs on track and save time and money with Powerblanket ground thawing blankets.

Ready To Ship models come standard at 120VAC, but we offer 208, 240 & 480VAC custom solutions.  Anything we make below 120VAC or over 240VAC, along with anything built to run over 24Amps, will be non-ETL.

This could cause overheating.  NEVER add extra insulation to any of our heating products.  It will void any warranty and MAY BE HAZARDOUS.

All Powerblanket® products are shipped FOB Salt Lake City, UT, 84119.

Thermal Load is the amount of energy required to keep a space or object at a desired temperature.  When the environment is cooler than the desired temperature of the space or object, the thermal load is a heating load and is the amount of energy required to be added to the space or object in order to achieve the desired temperature.  All things being equal, the heating load will increase when the ambient air temperature decreases, or when the wind speed increases, or if the space or object is placed in contact with a large thermal mass, like a cold concrete floor.

Rapid Ramp (RR) Drum/Bucket is 100°F (± 10°F) / 38°C (±5°C)
PRO Drum/Bucket is 145°F (± 5°F) / 63°C (±3°C)
Foam Box Heaters 110°F (±10°F) / 43°C (±5°C)
Tote Heaters 145°F (± 5°F) / 63°C (±3°C)
DEF Tote Heaters 70°F (± 10°F) / 21°C (±5°C)
Gas Cylinder Heaters (propane) 90°F (± 10°F) / 32°C (±5°C)
Multi-Duty (concrete curing) from approximately 100°F to as high as 150°F
Extra Hot (ground thawing) 150°F (± 10°F) / 65°C (±3°C)

A few things may cause this: ambient temperature, wind speeds, product location, and possible additional variables.

Yes. The recommended product line for this is our Ground Thawing blankets

Not typically, it depends on depth of concrete or asphalt but this not an advised solution.

Our two best sellers are the BH55-PRO which heats/protects a 55-gallon drum and the TH275 which heats/protects a 275 gallon IBC tote.

Powerblanket products use a patented heat spreading technology that has revolutionized effective heat spreading.  Powerblanket uses this technology exclusively in all of its products.  Powerblanket products are electrically powered and heated through internal preset thermostats inside the insulated blankets.

No, it will damage the heating components.

Yes, a significant part of our business is designing blankets for custom applications.

Overlapping the heating element of a Powerblanket product could cause it to overheat.  If you don’t have an even thermal load will cause overheating.

All Powerblanket® heated solutions are certified by ETL to UL & CSA safety standards except for our DC, Powerblanket 400 & Heat warmer products.
